Sunday, June19, 2011 Cactus Flower
Fathers Day!! We got up and Jack and Monica made us a fabulous breakfast for Father's Day. Scrambled eggs with peppers, bacon, steak and yummy potatoes. Definitely a two thumbs up meal. Off to the Cloverdale flea market to see what we absolutely couldn't live without and could haul home. Hank wanted to go and see some electric scooters anyway so this was one way to pass some time. We came away with a coffee percolator and some plants. We saw this gorgeous cacti with massive flowers and had to stop and ask about it. Apparently it blooms and then produces a fruit similar to kiwi. We had to have it. As we discussed the pros and cons of taking one home, a guy came and bought the only two yellow ones she had and the ones we had our eye on. She gave us the address of their greenhouses and we set off to find it. They had several of them for sale, along with numerous other exotic plants and in the end we settled for the pink. It's so beautiful. We have to see if we can keep it alive long enough to see it bear the fruit. If we are successful with it we might even buy another one next year. I'm dying to see and taste this kiwi like food. We did get a scooter for Hank. Almost new and cute as a bugs ear. I will probably post a picture of it tomorrow. Right now we have it in the back of the van and we are awaiting Jack's return to help Hank dislodge it from the rear of the vehicle. So until tomorrow I bid you good bye and hope all those dads out there had a terrific day, I know Hank did.
